This year Team PDQ motorsports will be running the 1992 Honda civic SI that it has ran all year long in the Nor Cal Honda Challenge H4 class. This car is new to the 25 hour race, as it was built after “The Taxi” was retired from racing. The cars motor and suspension wise are identical, but “the Taxi” was a coupe, and the new race car is a hatch back.

Endurance racing is a lot more then just showing up to the track and racing your car, not that sprint races are that easy, but in comparison to a 25 hour endurance race they are. Team principle Mike Quan started preparing for this well over 3 months ago. At that time all of the logistics to run the event started being planned. Things such as hotel reservations, purchasing tires, order enough fuel, motor home rentals, who is going to drive, who is going to crew, ect.

Shortly after the logistics began being planed so did testing. Testing consisted of trying to find a more neutral setup in the car, that all six of the drivers could drive comfortably with. Around this time also the motor and transmission that would be used for the event were being re-built. Yes that is correct, a fully re-built motor and transmission are used for the 25 hour race, subsequently after the race the motor is pulled and will be rebuilt before being used again.

A month and half before the event all 25 some odd Toyo RA-1 tires are picked up, some shaved to 4/32nd other shaved to 6/32nd and some full treads. This balance of tires plays into the teams racing strategy along with having tires incase of raining weather. All of the tires were then heat cycled once, and will be ready to use during the race. It is unknown if the team will use all of the tires, but all of the tires are needed to cover all scenarios. After all this is a 25 hour race, that wont be called off for anything short of a snow blizzard, or tornado.

The team has on hand roughly 200 gallons of gasoline, which could be close to all used up. Again consumption of gas as well as tires is dependant on the weather, and the tempo of the race.
